THOSE of us looking forward to the winter season – in particular for hikes in snow and ice – might want to check out Asolo’s new Freney XT GV boot.
It’s a lightweight alpine boot and when we say lightweight we mean just a few grammes heavier than a standard pair of hiking boots –a pair of size 8s come in at 1280g.
Much of the boot is made from Schoeller Keprotec – a fabric weaved out of a mix of Cordura, Polyamide and Kevlar.
There’s a Gore-Tex liner throughout, Vibram’s Mulaz sole and a full protective rubber rand.
These have a crampon ledge too, so they can accept semi-automatic C2 crampons with a heel-clip.
They cost £300, around the mark you’d expect for pay for a quality lightweight mountaineering boot.
Available in sizes 6 to 13.5 UK.
