Arc’teryx has just announced its Alpine Academy is returning to Chamonix this year.
If you have the slightest interest in wanting to get in to mountaineering or to at least understand how the ‘big boys and girls’ do it, then this four-day event is a must-go-to.
This year it takes place from Thursday the 29th June to Sunday 2nd July. The idea is beginners and experts alike can advance their mountain skills in clinics hosted by world-renowned alpinists.
The organisers say there will be more than 20 of these clinics in June, all of them focusing on mountaineering, climbing, rescuing, ski alpinism and, for the first time, mountain trail running.
Also new for this year will be an ‘Alpine Village’ which will turn the popular Place Balmat and Place du Triangle into buzzing hot spots, open to everyone.
The daily program includes open-air master classes, movie nights, concerts, athlete demos, climbing walls and other activities related to alpinism.
The Academy will kick off with a Mountain Clean Up on Thursday 29th June when participants are welcomed to join the pro athletes in collecting litter from among the mountains surrounding Chamonix.
Finally, this year’s Academy will extend geographically to include Les Grand Montets, l’Aiguille du Midi, Brévent and La Mer de Glace – all amazing and beautiful places to spend time in and develop our skills.
